HISTORY

The Rockdale County Genealogical Society (RCGS) began with the thoughts and dreams of three charter-members.   Martha Brown, Bob Phillips and Linda Etheridge (Bob and Linda are both deceased).   The charter-members had help and encouragement from Joyce Algood.  The first meeting was held at the Nancy Guinn Library on November 14, 1993, 31 people attended with Debbie Manget as their first speaker.
PROJECTS

Family File Folders
Family file folders are housed in the filing cabinet in the Special Collections Room at the Nancy Guinn Library, 864 Green Street, Conyers, GA 30012

Court House Records in the Probate Judge’s Office

Lillis Brown, then Probate Judge of Rockdale County, found years of neglected records when she took office. The society was asked to help and volunteers went through the  dusty records, organizing and preparing them for digitalization. These records are now available for researchers.

Field trips
Field trips are coordinated to Genealogical Special Events, Libraries, and Cemeteries

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
A special interest group was started in 2019 to explore and talk about different topics regarding Genealogy.   The self-driven group meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1275 Flat Shoals Road, Conyers, GA at 3:30 - 5 pm.  All are welcomed
